Google launched its first smartwatch, the Pixel Watch, earlier this month. The smartwatch, which comes with the Wear operating system (OS), Fitbit features and a round-shaped dial, is made from 80% recycled stainless steel, in line with the tech giant’s sustainability goals.
Now, according to reports, Google has contacted the developers and asked them to create more apps for Pixel Watch based on WearOS. Likewise, every year Apple releases new features that developers can use after the product launch.
Looks like Google is taking a page from Apple’s book. In its Android Developers blog, Google highlighted apps for its new Pixel Watch. “Now is a particularly good time to get your app ready to look great on all the new watches consumers put in their hands,” according to the Android developer team.
Although Apple does this every year at the WWDC event and after the hardware launches with new features for developers to adopt, this is a first for Google.
The tech giant’s preview notes that the Pixel Watch “includes the latest platform updates, Wear OS 3.5.” According to reports, the tech giant wants more seamless messaging integration between hardware and the operating system and development platform team. He also mentions app development tools like Compose for Wear OS and the Tiles material library with a strong focus on contemporary design.
