Apple’s iPhone 14 series was just released in markets around the world last week and has just arrived in the hands of users. But it seems that new phones go through their fair share of startup issues – in the form of bugs.
Many users have taken to social media to report various issues especially affecting their brand new iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max model. Although they are all minor, they relate to either a software glitch or the camera on third-party apps. Here we list all the recent bugs that seem to plague the iPhone 14 Pro, whether Apple has acknowledged the issue, and when we can expect them to be fixed.
iPhone 14 Pro “freezes” during data transfer
The problem:
The first thing to do after getting the new iPhone is to set it up. But many iPhone 14 Pro users cannot get past the initial data transfer page.
iPhone 14 Pro would be “frozen” or unresponsive during data transfer for some users. People have reported a bug that does not allow the phone to bypass an iCloud restore or data transfer option when transferring data from another iPhone.
The fix:
It seems that there is no fix for this bug yet. But Apple acknowledged the problem and in an internal memo to MacRumors (opens in a new tab), the company mentioned that it was “aware of this issue and is investigating it”. Meanwhile, Apple says users should force restart their iPhone if it becomes unresponsive for more than 5 minutes.
iPhone 14 Pro camera ‘noises and shakes’ on some apps
The problem:
The iPhone 14 Pro upgraded to a 48MP camera this year, but it seems that the high-res camera is not yet suitable to work on some social media apps. Some users have taken to social media to report that the iPhone camera “noises” and “shakes” on apps like Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok.
The problem seems to be related to the camera’s optical image stabilization feature which is otherwise supposed to minimize shaking. Users have also reported physical sounds from the camera.

When we tried it on our iPhone 14 Pro review device, it didn’t happen, indicating that this issue only affects some users.
The fix:
[Update: Apple has fixed this issue with a recent iOS 16.0.2 update]Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman tweeted (opens in a new tab) that Apple has confirmed that it has identified a fix for the problem and that a software update will be released next week.
Now on @TheTerminal: Apple has identified a fix for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max camera shake issue and a software update will be released next week. The issue had impacted third-party apps such as Snap and TikTok that use the camera.September 19, 2022
iMessage and FaceTime issues on iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro
The problem:
Some users cannot receive iMessages and FaceTime calls after setting up their new iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Pro. Apple reported this rather serious issue in a support document that warns users to update to the latest iOS – 16.0.1.
In the accompanying document (opens in a new tab)Apple mentions that users might experience one or more of these issues:
- You cannot receive iMessages or FaceTime calls.
- You see a green message bubble instead of a blue one when you send a message to another Apple device.
- Conversations in messages appear as two separate threads, instead of just one.
- Recipients see your messages from the wrong account, for example from your email address if you had selected your phone number.
The fix:
[Update: Apple has fixed this bug with an iOS 16.0.2 update]Apple acknowledged the bug and advised users to immediately update to the latest iOS.
The iOS 16.0.1 update does not mention these “fixes” in its release note and Apple mentioned backup steps in case users “still have an issue with iMessage or FaceTime”.
Apple suggested the following steps for those still facing the issue:
- In the Settings app, tap Cellular. Make sure your phone line is activated. If you are using multiple SIM cards, make sure the phone number you want to use is selected and activated.
- In the Settings app, tap Messages. Then tap Send & Receive.
- Tap the phone number you want to use with Messages.
- Return to the Settings app and tap on FaceTime.
- Tap the phone number you want to use with FaceTime.
iOS 16 copy-paste bug
The problem: This issue affects iPhone 14 but also older iPhones running iOS 16. There have been far too many complaints about pop-up alerts when trying to copy and paste content. (opens in a new tab) from app to app on iPhones.
The fix: This issue was recently resolved with an iOS 16.0.2 update.
iOS 16 battery drain issue
The problem:
Many users have complained about iOS 16 draining their iPhone battery. This issue does not appear to be limited to the iPhone 14 series and appears to affect iPhone XR through iPhone 13. Users reported that after downloading iOS 16, their iPhone’s battery performance was “dramatically” affected.
It’s been two weeks since the iOS 16 rollout, but the issue has yet to be resolved. Initially, the haptic keyboard was thought to cause battery drain and Apple even recommended disabling the iOS 16 feature in Settings. But that didn’t seem to fix the problem. Even a recent iOS 16.0.2 update that fixed the camera shake issue on the iPhone 14 and the copy/paste bug didn’t fix the battery drain issue.
The fix:
There is no solution to the problem yet. Hopefully Apple will roll out a new iOS 16.0.3 update although we haven’t seen any signs of it so far. The only fix in sight at the moment could be the iOS 16.1 update which could launch in October and is currently in beta, but which also does not currently mention a battery life fix.
Apple Support (opens in a new tab)responded to some users asking them to try restarting their phone or if that doesn’t work they told users to do a restore. We also recommend that you try disabling the keyboard haptic feedback feature under “Sounds and Haptics” in Settings.
We’ll continue to update this page with any other bugs or fixes that roll out to new iPhones, so stay tuned.
