The 10 highest paid Serie A players in 2022-23: Lukaku & Pogba share 7th…

While Serie A may not have the financial might it used to compared to La Liga, Premier League and Ligue 1, clubs like Juventus and Inter are still paying big salaries.

Serie A can boast some of the best players on the planet, so we decided to see which of them earns the biggest salary in exchange for their talent on the pitch.

Here are the highest paid players in the Italian top flight. There are six players in the ninth tier, so there’s actually a total of 14 on this list, but it’s still a top 10 of sorts.

The figures shown are the amount they receive per week in base salary according to Capology*.

=9. Bremer (Juventus, €178,077)

The Brazilian defender has just come through the door of Juve, who snatched him from under the noses of arch-rivals Inter, but he is already one of their biggest earners.

He followed his move from Turin with a call-up for the Brazilian national team and looks a solid acquisition.

=9. Nicolo Barella (Inter, €178,077)

We love Nicolo Barella – he’s the perfect balance between brilliant footballer and shit house.

In fact, if we had the money, we’d probably pay that much. He could play goalie in the office and play for our five-a-side team on Tuesday nights.

=9. Juan Cuadrado (Juventus, €178,077)

He probably gets that much just from being there for absolutely bloody ages.

=9. Hakan Calhanoglu (Inter, €178,077)

One of very many players to have moved from San Siro to, uh, San Siro over the years, Calhanoglu swapped Milan for Inter in 2021 and probably regretted it a bit when he saw Milan win the Scudetto. without him.

Still, Inter won a Coppa Italia and he wasn’t bringing that kind of money home when he was at Milan, so swings and rides, huh?

=9. Federico Chiesa (Juventus, €178,077)

Chiesa ruptured his knee ligament in January and apart from being a blow to him personally, it was a huge problem for Juventus.

The 24-year-old winger had been exceptional for Juve and captured the imagination of the continent during Italy’s successful run to European Championship glory.

His ability to create chances and ward off a goal out of thin air is incredible and Juve hope to get him back as soon as possible.

=9. Edin Dzeko (Inter, €178,077)

A little expensive for a relatively immobile 36-year-old striker? Yeah, probably.

But he came as a free agent, which comes with a salary bonus, and helped Inter hold on after the departures of Antonio Conte and Romelu Lukaku in 2021, so Inter fans don’t can’t complain too much.

=7. Paul Pogba (Juventus, €197,308)

Yeah, we were surprised it wasn’t more too. There is, according to Capology, a bonus of 2.5 million euros to be added on top of this, although we don’t know what the conditions of this bonus are. Either way, that’s not the kind of money Pogba had at Manchester United.

In a recent interview with GQ, Pogba said: “Serie A is always one of the toughest leagues. The real difference with the Premier League is economic power, but when it comes to football, Italy is still among the best in the world.

His salary is still a big financial commitment from a Juve perspective, especially for a player who spent the start of the season injured and making headlines for all the wrong reasons, after a drama involving blackmail and accusations of witchcraft.

His injury could even rule him out of the World Cup, which would be a shame.

Paul Pogba plays for France against Belgium. in the UEFA Nations League.

=7. Romelu Lukaku (Inter, €197,308)

Lukaku took a 30% pay cut to seal a loan move from Chelsea to Inter, but remains one of the best earners in the Italian league.

Many Inter fans were unhappy with the way he started in 2021, but a goal on his second debut helped rebuild some bridges.

=4. Lautaro Martinez (Inter, €213,654)

Martinez became Inter’s main man in Lukaku’s absence and thus became their biggest earner, along with the next man on this list.

We love a fully functioning strike partnership, so we can’t see him reconnecting with Lukaku this season.

=4. Marcelo Brozovic (Inter, €213,654)

He has a bombshell tattooed on his neck, so he’s probably pointing that out in contract talks to bully Inter directors into giving him more money.

=4. Alex Sandro (Juventus, €213,654)

Is Alex Sandro a good left-back? Yes. Was he a solid servant at Juventus for many years? Yes. Should he still be one of their highest paid players in 2022? Be mistaken…

=2. Wojciech Szczesny (Juventus, €231,538)

If someone had come to us in 2012 and told us that Szczesny would be Gianluigi Buffon’s long-term successor at Juventus, we would have sought immediate medical attention for them. But here we are a decade later and not only Szczesny Buffon’s replacement, but he’s been more than enough.

Like Pogba and Chiesa, the first part of his 2022-23 campaign was disrupted by injury, which can be seen as one of the reasons for the Bianconeri’s disappointing form at the start of the season.

=2. Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus, €231,538)

Another absolute mainstay in Juve’s back line, Bonucci faced criticism from Italian fans and media in 2022-23 amid the Old Lady’s terrible run.

But as Juve’s captain and one of the most experienced players in Europe, not to mention the Juve dressing room, it’s hardly a surprise that he is on a serious salary.

1. Dusan Vlahovic (Juventus, €249,231)

Finally, one more Juventus player to complete the set. And what a player he is.

The 22-year-old is big and strong, quick enough to run behind, smart enough to link up with his teammates and can finish all sorts of chances from virtually any angle imaginable.

Although he’s not in scintillating form at the moment, Juventus have a serious player on their hands and someone to lead the line for years to come.
