EmmerdaleExecutive producer Jane Hudson spoke about the decision to kill off popular characters in the 50th anniversary episodes.
The ITV soap is celebrating its milestone throughout October, with moving scenes and big stunts along the way.
It has already been confirmed that Faith Dingle’s final scenes will air this week, as her cancer story reaches its tragic conclusion.
Next week’s episodes will see a deadly storm hit the village and this story is also set to end in tragedy.

Hudson explained, “We’ll have huge stunts, big emotional heartbreak, secrets, lies, comedy, and sadly, some of the soap opera’s most beloved characters will sadly lose their lives.
“There will be a funeral, a wedding with Kim and Will, and a birth.
“There will be a huge storm that will wreak havoc on the whole village and change everyone’s lives forever. It will be a very special month and we hope everyone will really enjoy it. But the 50th is not just a celebration of Emmerdale – it’s a celebration of what makes soap great.”

When asked if it was hard to kill off beloved characters, Hudson replied, “It’s always hard to kill off a character because someone loses their job. You don’t want someone to lose their job. .
“But the nature of soap operas means that if you want to introduce new characters, you have to lose the old ones. If you’re going to have a death on the soap opera, it can’t be the postman who got three lines because it doesn’t matter. doesn’t matter.
“A death must impact not only the characters but also the viewers watching. Each of our deaths will bring a different emotion.”
